Earthfriend Discovery Camp

PictureFormer Manitou campers love to come back and teach others
Earthfriend Discovery Day Camp nurtures the loving and magical connection the young naturally feel with their environment and all forms of life on the planet. Since Summer 2004 with seven campers, the camp has been a favorite for many who've returned year after year. Partnering with Vermont Wilderness School since 2010 has brought new levels of skill and experience to the Manitou vision. Leader of this camp for many years has been veteran camp director and instructor Amy Hyatt, often supported by previous campers who at Manitou who come back to share their life experience with new adventurers in Nature. Activities may include:
o   Build a Lost Camp
o   Wade in the stream & catch frogs
o   Follow the tracks of a deer
o   Make coal-burned bowls & spoons
o   Learn to carry fire from one place to another safely

Camps for ages 7-12, weeklong session for the first two weeks of August every summer.

Shambhala Warrior Day Camp

In a week of Martial Arts, Nature Awareness training and outdoor play, 9-15 year-olds experience Aikido (“way of harmony” in Japanese), rooted in the twin practices of observing animals, birds, rocks, rivers, wind & trees in attunement with Life; and developing compassion and insight into caring for Life. Tradition holds that these tools equip Shambhala Warriors to stand up to power for the purposes of good.

Campers also learn scouting skills—moving silently through the woods and the Art of Invisibility—amidst the fun, joy & wonder of discovering Nature together.

Shambhala Warrior Camp is led by Amy Hyatt, 2nd degree black belt in Aikido and 20-year teacher of Nature Awareness and survival skills with youth at Manitou and elsewhere.

Check this space in the winter for 2023 registration.
