In a week of Martial Arts, Nature Awareness training and outdoor play, 9-15 year-olds experience Aikido (“way of harmony” in Japanese), rooted in the twin practices of observing animals, birds, rocks, rivers, wind & trees in attunement with Life; and developing compassion and insight into caring for Life. Tradition holds that these tools equip Shambhala Warriors to stand up to power for the purposes of good.
Campers also learn scouting skills—moving silently through the woods and the Art of Invisibility—amidst the fun, joy & wonder of discovering Nature together. Shambhala Warrior Camp is led by Amy Hyatt, 2nd degree black belt in Aikido and 20-year teacher of Nature Awareness and survival skills with youth at Manitou and elsewhere. Check this space in the winter for 2023 registration. |
